Client Challenge
Our client in Elanora, Gold Coast faced a steep, unusable backyard that made it difficult to envision a practical outdoor space. They were planning to add a swimming pool and needed flat, accessible areas for their children to enjoy. Although they initially engaged an engineer for retaining wall designs, they found the proposed solution to be cost-prohibitive. After careful consideration, they opted for our alternative system, which offered significant savings—around 35% less than the original designs—without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Our Solution
To address the client’s needs, we constructed two primary retaining walls using Flush Face Garden Wall concrete blocks for a sleek, modern finish. Additionally, we installed concrete sleepers next to the house and around the pool area to further support the new landscaping. Our earthworks associate managed to excavate approximately 300m³ of material, despite limited access and challenging conditions, including the presence of rock. Rock breakers were used effectively to cut the yard to the desired levels, ensuring the ground was prepared for both the pool and flat play areas.
Outcome
The transformation of this Elanora property was remarkable, converting a steep, unusable slope into a beautifully landscaped and functional backyard. The two main walls, each featuring long, graceful curves, not only supported the new pool area but also created flat, accessible spaces for the family to enjoy. We also incorporated steps to facilitate easy access to the backyard, adding both practicality and aesthetic appeal. The project was completed within two weeks, providing the client with a durable, cost-effective solution that perfectly met their needs.
